Masters and Disciples: The art of the fine art prints
The first record of art printing dates back to first century China with engraving, generally used to print and illustrate fine scripture. Artists have driven the medium forward by experimenting with various processes in which ink is moved from one surface to another. Over the centuries from middle ages onward, different printing processes have been discovered allowing artist free range in interpreting their artistic output. From engraving we move on to etching, aquatint, dry-point, wood-block, wood cut, lino-cut, collagraph, photo transfer, lithograph, mono-type, etc., with
photo-transfer, lino-cut and collagraph being the most recent, invented in the 20th century.
This exhibition presents us with the work of four artists; two Masters who have exhibited all over the world and who hold prestigious teaching positions and their Disciples, who also come from an art background:
Caterina De Nisco was born in Parma, Italy. Having studied in the Accademia dell'Arte in her native city, the artist went on to win several important scholarships and awards, and has participated in prestigious exhibitions in Europe and abroad. She is now the teacher of fine art printing in the Art Academy of Malaga, Spain where she now lives and works. De Nisco presents us with a series of exquisite aquatint etchings.
Marisol Guerrero is a native of San Miguel de Allende where she still lives and works. She received her formal education in the University of Guanajuato with a degree in Fine Arts (artes plásticas). She has since gone on to receive multiple scholarships and awards with exhibitions throughout Mexico. From 2016 to the present, Guerrero teaches the art of print making in Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramírez “El Nigromante” art center branch of Bellas Artes) NBAL in San Miguel de Allende, and teaching in the Centro de Artes in Salamanca, Gto in 2019 and the Centro de Artes of Celaya,,Gto. In 2020. She describes her work as visual and poetic interpretations. She is presenting this exhibition with a notable series of incredible lithographs.
Gabriela Hurtado, originally from Mexico City but lives and works in San Miguel de Allende where after receiving a certificate on Art History from the local branch of Bellas Artes NBAL, is the manager of one of San Miguel's most prestigious art galleries. She studied print making with Marisol Guerrero and is present in this exhibition with a few etchings, with a wood-block and an exciting series of wood-cuts.
Erica Corral was born in Mexico City but now lives and works in San Miguel de Allende, Corral comes from a family of distinguished artist and followed her own path, initially creating fine figurative drawings and going on to exhibit fine photography with poetry. Ever interested in experimenting with different art forms, Corral started experimenting in art printing under the guidance of Caterina De Nisco & Marisol Guerrero. Her work is perhaps the closest interpretation of the most recent forms of art printing, presenting fascinating works on photo-transfer and collagraph mono-types.

Ramiro Martínez Plasencia - Mar y Tierra
Born in Mexico City but living and working in Monterrey, Nuevo León. Martínez Plasencia is somewhat of a present day Dadaist. Behind his quiet and romantic countenance of a bygone poet, is a sophisticated critic in reaction to what is happening in the world we live in. Behind his exquisite drawing technique is the razor sharp, not really so hidden critique of present day society. What appears as whimsical tableau, upon closer examination, is a subtle rebuke of our world, our civilization.
These are indeed like fairy tales but meant for adults. These narrative drawings tend to almost engage in quasi surrealist metaphors with his fascination in the intertwining realms of art, magic and mysticism. Most of the works are filled with whimsy, tending towards the absurd; a satirical interpretation of a prevailing society focused on the absurd with a slight attempt to provoke. Following a loose chronological path, this work maps the influence of esoteric and surrealist concepts. From the introspective to the irreverent, Ramiro weaves together personal histories, cultural commentary and imaginative leaps, with nuances, contradictions and creative freedom, offering a space where emotion becomes form and wit and wonder become equally powerful tools of expression.
Much of the artist's skill can be found in the sheer visible enchantment of each work which can be admired for its figurative beauty; content and beauty, all allusive metaphors, sign of a true master who invites us to use contemplation and reflection, allowing us to see beyond surface appearances.
Originally educated to be an architect, the artist has shown in many exhibitions throughout Mexico and lucky are the collectors who have chosen to collect his work.

Nane Wenhammar - Between Threads and Tales
Nane Wenhammar's work is born from the intersection of textiles and symbols, between the gesture of weaving and the need to narrate. Through natural fibers, handmade paper, and organic materials, her practice articulates a visual language in which each thread contains memory, rhythm, and meaning.
The title of this exhibition—Between Threads and Tales —alludes to the shared roots of text and weaving (textum, in Latin): both are interweavings, constructions made of elements that intertwine and tighten. In her work, weaving is not just a technique, but a way of thinking: a way of organizing, sensing, and giving form to the invisible.
The pieces on display invite a slow reading, like one following the thread of a silent story. There are no literal narratives, rather stories that emerge in the plot, in the transparencies, in the voids, and in the knots. In this material and poetic universe, each work is a woven territory that holds echoes of the ancestral, the corporeal, and the natural.
Between Threads and Tales invites us to enter that delicate space where textile art and metaphor intersect, reminding us that thought—like fiber—is spun, braided, and transformed.
