Jared Jiménez
Originally from Morelia, Michoacán, Jared Jiménez is a visual artist and a musician who explores pre-Hispanic themes in both artistic practices. His recent series of paintings grows out of his interpretation of the imagery of the codices, the only books by indigenous Mexicans to survive the conquest. Another series is based on his enthusiasm for a contemporary indigenous dance phenomenon known as Los Kurpites. Jiménez studied fine arts and music at Bellas Artes in Morelia and moved to San Miguel de Allende five years ago. He has played with Jadhex Sonidos Prehispánicos since 2008, touring with them throughout Mexico. Closer to home, he plays cumbia with Grupo Malo at many San Miguel night spots.
