I am the duality within me; the good and evil of the scale, I am my periphery and my center, I am the struggle between my anger and my temperance.
- José Cruz Sainz
Duality is, without a doubt, one of the paradigmatic themes in the history of art, thought, spirituality, and culture. It is one of the themes that periodically return to the center of our existential, philosophical, aesthetic, and artistic interest because they are inexhaustible. They engage our entire being and require a renewed perspective in every era and in every individual.
Art, like philosophy, repeatedly raises the same questions and issues, but never resolves them in the same way. The experiential depth of each artist and thinker sets a course and a path that can only be traversed by them. They can invite others to be fellow travelers, of course, to witness their personal twists and turns, and even to take possession of the questioning in their own right, but each person's journey will lead to peculiar places and conclusions.
 Ashes to Ashes *
Ana Thiel addresses the subject of duality through two large installations in separate galleries at Museo de Arte de Querétaro (MAQRO). More than installations, they seem like components of a magical rite that inaugurates two cosmic spaces, invoking that duality that defines us all: a luminous and auspicious side, and a dark, mysterious, and disturbing one. Through an interplay of light and shadow, of concealment and revelation, Ana Thiel invites us to reconsider the problem of the one in the diverse, of the whole and the part, the drama of the dual and its fascinating vicissitudes.
 Echoes from the Studio *
An artist specializing in the arduous work of fire, crystal, rock, and sand, Ana Thiel wields an almost shamanic power, unusual in contemporary art. In her hands, the elements dance and create works: circles, orbits, spaces, atmospheres, occultations and apparitions, even sounds and reverberations. Like Plato's Demiurge in the Timaeus, she introduces harmony into the formless matter of the cosmos, producing works of great expressive power and vast conceptual depth.
The MAQRO, offering the public this interesting and expressive exhibition, is pleased to host the works of Ana Thiel, a creator who also played a fundamental role in shaping this institution in its early days, in the late 1980s.

Between Opposites
There is a beginning. There is an ending.
Life is happening in between.
Cycles everywhere. Impermanence is the constant.
It's all a matter of time.
We see white. We see black.
But in essence, we are all the same. Just the background changes.
The circle is white.
The circle is black.
Transparent forms take the color, yet are colorless themselves.
Where do we take our white and our black?
They do seem opposite, yet...
White contains all the colors of light.
Black contains all the colors of paint.
Which do we want to manifest in our lives? And how?
- Ana Thiel

Ana Thiel is an internationally acclaimed sculptor who has taken her glass and mixed-media creations to realms where paradox and opposites find common ground.
"Like Andy Goldsworthy, like Anselm Kiefer... Ana Thiel reminds us to love the world, no matter how ephemeral or damaged by time. We may feel uncomfortable and even heartbroken by her works, but we will certainly feel transformed by them." Elizabeth Rosner, author, USA
Her work ranges from single sculptures to works for indoor and outdoor environments that invite reflection and awaken our senses. Her sculptures have traveled extensively through exhibitions on different continents. Thiel has received numerous awards and recognitions, including being invited as an artist-in-residence in several countries. Her work is represented in museums as well as public and private collections worldwide.
"Her works allude to a Saga that speaks of the spiritual stature of human beings who, above all negativity, even horror, have overcome life and the beauty it can offer." Ingrid Suckaer, Art Critic, Mexico
Combining her knowledge of Industrial Design with decades of experience in glass and mixed media, Ana Thiel creates sculptures and commissioned works for specific spaces. Alongside her artistic activity, she has chaired and served on the boards of various art associations and museums. She teaches courses and lectures on art, creativity, and sculpture at universities and cultural institutions in Mexico and abroad.
According to author, critic, and curator William Warmus, "Thiel's work does not lament the dangers that surround us; she prefers to create a space of beauty. This is true sincerity, and it results in stunning sculptures."
