San Miguel de Allende has always been one of the main artistic hubs in Mexico, thanks to its attractive layout, beautiful architecture, good weather, and interesting people. Artists from all over the world began flocking to San Miguel in mid 20th century, and have never quite stopped since. Despite the town's expansion and changes, San Miguel continues to inspire creative individuals with its magic. Some come there to paint, others to write, others to take photos or compose music. The town's enchanting and magnetic energy has been explained in different ways - some claim that San Miguel's geographical location is special, others that the town is positioned on a huge deposit of quartz crystal, and that the crystal has magical properties. Others yet believe that St. Michael the Archangel, the patron saint of the town has a place in the equation.
Regardless, San Miguel has attracted some extremely fine artists over the years, and two of them will be joining forces this coming weekend in displaying their wonderfully inspired artwork at the beautiful and spacious Tres Fuentes Hotel on Stirling Dickinson #2. The exhibition opens Friday, July 25 at 5 PM, continues on Saturday 5 to 8 PM, and will remain accessible during the coming months, although the artists will no longer be present there in person.

Andrew Osta
Andrew Osta, born in Kyiv, Ukraine, first arrived in San Miguel in 2011. At the time he was the youngest working artist in town. Andrew was strongly influenced by San Miguel's extraordinary ambiance. His artwork underwent a transformation: surreal jungle themes inspired by his travels in Peru and his experimentation with ancestral medicinal plants, gave way to joyous expressions of street dogs, dining cats, magical views of San Miguel's downtown, and flying mariachis. Osta's collectors, some of whom have dozens of the artist paintings in their homes, insist that the artist succeeds in capturing the elusive magic of San Miguel in a uniquely personal way. The exhibition in Tres Fuentes will combine Osta's San Miguel themes with his complex surreal work, as well as some impressionistic plein air landscapes painted in Oaxaca.

Efrén González
Maestro Efrén González is visiting from Ajijic, Jalisco to join this exhibition. He is a highly accomplished artist with his own museum. He specializes in plein air paintings, and combines reality with imagination to create a timeless and romantic version of the Mexico he grew up in, complete with its outdoor markets and residents in traditional dress. Gonzales paints every day, having organized his life in such a way that he is able to travel and paint all over Mexico and internationally. Mexico is his favorite country and biggest inspiration. Over the years, the artist has fallen in love with the special light of San Miguel de Allende. He travels with his brushes, wishing to paint every corner of this beautiful city.
