What if before enjoying Ballet Nepantla’s show you take the opportunity to learn about its history?
Attend the talk with the author of Borderlands Aesthetics: The Birth of Ballet Nepantla, Dr. Aída Hurtado.
Dr. Hurtado’s presentation will focus on how two artists’ professional identities emerged from distinct genres to create Ballet Nepantla. Andrea from classical ballet and contemporary dance, and Martin from traditional Mexican folklórico.
Envisioned a new form of expression that fused the two modalities to create an aesthetic that would speak to the historical, cultural, and social realities of a broader narrative of being Mexican, Mexican American, immigrant, and trans-cultural.
Particular emphasis will be given to the third chapter in the book which focuses on Mística, choreographed and performed during the COVID pandemic. Ballet Nepantla’s production of Mística transforms the experience of death into art.
