RAAB In Action, Rotary - talk

A randomized study of adults over the age of 50 was conducted recently to look into the causes of blindness and visual impairment. The study also targeted adults with a history of diabetes and cataracts. The result of this study, which was conducted in Queretero, is the Rapid Assessment of Avoidable Blindness and you're invited to hear this eye-opening presentation as The Mid-Day Club of San Miguel de Allende Professor Van Lansingh from the Instituto Mexicano de Oftalmología.

Professor Lansing is a part of the medical and management team of the IMO. Their mission is to train eye care teams to better serve the needs of all the population, particularly the most impoverished segments, giving them care with high quality and compassion. The goal is to establish branches and franchises to be able to cover the areas of need regardless of the geographical location. They also want to use available technology to make services more cost-efficient, such as Telemedicine and Imaging technology.

Prof. Lansingh has worked in Latin America, North America, South East Asia, and the Pacific. He obtained his MD in 1987 from the Universidad Nacional Autonoma de Mexico City, Mexico, with residency and postgraduate work in Mexico City, and the Nielsen Center for Eye Surgery/University of South Florida. In 2005 he was awarded a PhD from the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia in health sciences after fieldwork with Aboriginal communities in Central Australia.

Prof. Lansingh is a peer reviewer for Eye, Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology, Ophthalmic Epidemiology, Oftalmología Clinica y Experimental, and the Australian Medical Journal among others. He has authored or coauthored more than 100 papers in peer-reviewed journals, 20 chapters in books, and several posters or oral presentations. He is a frequent lecturer in various international meetings/courses, and we are most pleased to have him join us Tuesday, August 14th at 12:00 PM at the Hotel Mission on Salida a Queretaro. Parking is free, and the hotel is easily accessible by bus.
