with Alfredo Muro and Virginia Yep

"An evening of Peruvian and Ibero-American music with a Latin, sensual and modern touch with a jazz flavor, by Peruvian classical guitarists, Virginia Yep and Alfredo Muro, who met some years ago at an International Guitar Festival in Lima and then over the years, the aforementioned guitarists have been presented again in Germany, Peru and the Dominican Republic. Now they will perform in San Miguel de Allende, at Casa Europa-Mexico, on Thursday, March 21. at 7pm. A must-see program of guitar solos and duos. They will also have a special guest, the renowned Mexican musician Victor Monterrubio, in the Peruvian cajon.

The program features pieces by Peruvian composers Victoria Santa Cruz and Felix Casaverde. As well as Celedonio Romero, Astor Piazzolla, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Baden Powell, Virginia Yep and other great Latin composers.

The Peruvian guitarist Virginia Yep with her performance and compositions achieve a new sound on the guitar, exploring the acoustic possibilities of the instrument with the rigor of contemporary classical music in fusion with Latin American popular music, especially with Peruvian music.

His guitar teachers were Juan Brito at the National Conservatory of Music. Lima and José Luis Rodrigo at the Royal Music Conservatory, Madrid, where it culminated with Honorable Mention. She has been a fellow of the Improvement Courses in Granada and Santiago de Compostela, etc. and summer courses with Leo Brouwer, José Tomás, Flores Chaviano, among others.

He has published compositions, articles and books, as well as record productions and a documentary, has received dedicated works and made world premieres, as well as concerts in Peru, South America, Central America, the United States, Europe, North Africa, Turkey and China. He currently lives in Berlin where he received his PhD in Comparative Musicology at the Freie Universität Berlin, where he alternates his concert activities with teaching and music research.

Born in Peru, Alfredo Muro began teaching himself guitar at the age of nine and won a national prize three years later. Through the years he has performed throughout the Americas,as well as in Europe and Asia. He was the featured artist at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. for the Millennium Center Series in 2007, and he performed at a special audience for the late Pope John Paul II at the Vatican. Muro is a gifted arranger and composer and has released many CD recordings of his own and other artists works.

He studied guitar with the great masters of the Peruvian guitar: Carlos Hayre and Octavio Ticona, learning the rich and varied harmony of Peruvian folklore. These experiences were complemented with studies in the United States with international professors: Manuel López Ramos, Frank Costa, Joan Doan and Alfredo Escande. He also studied Armonia y Contrapunto with the distinguished Mexican teacher José Suárez.

Alfredo Muro has had the honor of representing his native Peru and the United States in various international guitar festivals in Chile, Argentina, Peru, Brazil, Dominican Republic, Mexico, USA, Canada, Italy, Germany, Austria, Norway, Taiwan and Japan.

In March 2005, Alfredo Muro was chosen to receive Jack Rosenberg, as Musician of the Month, by the Oregon Jazz Society in his Jazzscene magazine.

This 2017, he was nominated for the Añomi advertising agency, the Latin American Association of writers and artists, receiving the quality trophy Eureka for artistic career excellence.
