Don Krim & Fidel Leal - concert

Don Krim is a standout musical star in San Miguel, a town with no shortage of fine musicians. He is a countertenor, that rarest of voices – a male whose natural vocal range, without falsetto, is that of a mezzo-soprano. Krim’s voice is “gorgeous,” says Spanish conductor José María Moreno, who adds, “It is a voice that transmits, so expressive, displaying so much musicality.” Grace Bumbry, one of the Metropolitan Opera’s greatest stars, heard Krim sing at a church in Salzburg, and immediately invited him to coach her students in Berlin. “An extraordinary talent,” Bumbry says of Krim.

In his August 15 recital, Krim teams up for the first time with the brilliant Fidel Leal, described by Artecubano as “one of the most important Cuban pianists of his generation.”

The program will include Robert Schumann’s song cycle Frauenliebe und Leben, Steven Mark Kohn’s American Folk Songs, spirituals and Spanish/Latin American songs.
