Peter Leventhal - opening

Friday, November 25, 6-9pm
Sargeant Gallert, Aldama 3

Many remember Peter's paintings from their being displayed at Berlin Bar for many years. His devotion to studying the styles of the Old Masters, as well, his passion for literature and history show through his work. Bright colors, amazing brush strokes and beautiful draftsmanship depict mythological stories, portraits and scenes from urban life.

Born in New York City, where he lived for 63 years, Peter was known as a "true artist". As a young man, he made his way to Paris, where he lived for two years. Learning, absorbing all he could in the art world there, he endured, nearly starving while doing so.

Upon returning the Manhattan, Peter began his career teaching art to gifted students, spending summers on a fishing boat around Long Island and wintering in Mexico, first in Puerto Vallarta, and then, in 1990, San Miguel. All the while, he was drawing, painting, sculpting in wood, and painting some more.

After moving to St. Augustine, FL, for four years, in 2002, he finally moved his life to San Miguel, this city he loved. Soon, he was invited to the Fabrica la Aurora, choosing the space previously used for its dining room to be his working studio. Here he painted and sculpted every day.

In addition to the Berlin Bar, Peter also exhibited in Mexico City and in Lenoir's well-known gallery here in town.

In 2005, he met his wife, Terra Mizwa. together they enjoyed years of sharing the studio space together, creating works of art, and hosting shows and Aurora art walks.

The last of the collection of his paintings, wood sculptures and prints are now being exhibited, and for sale, at the Sargeant Gallery (La Conexion) at Aldama 3 .
