Judy Raffel "Surreality"
Born in Chicago, currently living in Santa Monica, CA, my interest in photography has blossomed, starting in my late 60’s. In my earlier years I had no actual creative outlet. Upon meeting my Significant Other, I was taught to use a simple camera and the rest is history. Photography classes helped greatly in my development, particularly in composition, as I still remain a technophobe. As a member of a photography group, Los Angles Photography Project, I have participated in many exhibits in the Los Angeles area. I photograph a very eclectic range of subjects, specializing in environmental portraits and street photography. I’m deeply influenced by Cartier-Bresson who succeeded to “trap life as it is, where the smallest thing can be a great subject”. Various travels, including several to San Miguel, provided wonderful subject matter and my passion for photography is increasing daily. Grandma Moses, move over!
The following series, “Surreality”, brings alternative reality to well known landmarks in SMA. These shots are not photoshopped, but composed this way in the camera.
