Mexico is undergoing a profound political transformation that is reshaping how government functions and influencing the lives of millions. In this final session of “The Fourth Transformation of Mexico: A New Regime for the 21st Century,” Carlos Navarro examines the leadership and impact of President Claudia Sheinbaum one year into her term.
Her supporters see her as an accomplished and decisive head of state committed to advancing Mexico’s Fourth Transformation. Her detractors claim her administration is a continuation of Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s presidency, with him still steering the course behind the scenes. Yet, many hope Sheinbaum will assert her independence and usher in a new era free from corruption, inefficiency, and political abuse.
Carlos Navarro, founder of Connect With Mexico, has spent over two decades interpreting Mexican politics for English-speaking audiences through talks, courses, and publications. He previously served as a political and media analyst for the U.S. Government’s CIA Open Source Center (2002–2012, 2016–2023) and as Head of Strategic Analysis in the Office of the President of Mexico (2012–2016), advising policymakers in Washington, D.C., Mexico City, and Panama.
