Mexico is undergoing a profound political metamorphosis that is redefining how government operates and affecting the lives of millions of citizens. In this second session of “The Fourth Transformation of Mexico: A New Regime for the 21st Century,” Carlos Navarro examines the 2018 presidential election that brought Andrés Manuel López Obrador to power — a turning point that reshaped the country’s political landscape.
As López Obrador was sworn into office, his agenda was already clear: strengthen the presidency, dismantle neoliberal policies, and remove conservatives from the upper levels of government. Navarro will analyze the impact of these changes on Mexico’s political system, public administration, and foreign policy, providing a comprehensive view of how the Fourth Transformation continues to influence national and international affairs.
Carlos Navarro, founder of Connect With Mexico, has spent over two decades interpreting Mexico’s politics for English-speaking audiences through talks, courses, and publications. He has served as a political and media analyst for the U.S. Government’s CIA Open Source Center (2002–2012, 2016–2023) and as Head of Strategic Analysis in the Office of the President of Mexico (2012–2016), providing insights to policymakers in Washington, D.C., Mexico City, and Panama.
