The Fourth Transformation of México: Session 1 - Andrés Manuel López Obrador: Idealist or Strongman?
Mexico is undergoing a profound political metamorphosis that is redefining how government operates and shaping the lives of millions. In this first session of “The Fourth Transformation of Mexico: A New Regime for the 21st Century,” Carlos Navarro will explore how President Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO) challenged the status quo and built a new political movement from the ground up.
After leaving the ruling PRI to form his own movement, López Obrador captured the hearts of millions through persistence, populist rhetoric, and a message of national renewal. But is he a visionary reformer — or a strongman consolidating power? Navarro will guide the audience through this pivotal question, analyzing the historical and political implications of Mexico’s Fourth Transformation.
Carlos Navarro is the founder of Connect With Mexico and has spent over two decades explaining Mexican politics to English-speaking audiences. He has served as a political and media analyst for the U.S. Government’s CIA Open Source Center (2002–2012, 2016–2023) and as Head of Strategic Analysis in the Office of the President of Mexico (2012–2016), providing insight to policymakers in Washington, D.C., Mexico City, and Panama.
