Tandy Martin, Nathan Feuerberg & Mario Oliva, Robert Russell

Four poets will present their work at Poetry Café Bellas Artes on April 19th.

Tandy Martin started writing poetry as soon as she could read. One of her first poems was called “The Balloon and the Spider,” a title she still finds obliquely appealing. Her father worked for NATO so she spent much of her childhood in Europe on planes and trains, sitting on benches with her book, living in her own world while waiting for her older sister and brother, or mother, to come and tell her where to go next.

As an adult, Tandy lived in Los Angeles, California and worked in various computer graphics studios, finally producing and directing some of the early special effects documentaries where she honed her skills as a filmmaker.
She is currently working on her own project “The Heart of the Silence” about a journey to sacred lagoons at 17,000 feet in the Peruvian Andes with a shaman and the Q’ero Indians. Some of her footage of the lagoons is at the Smithsonian National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, DC.

Nathan Feurerberg and Mario Olivo will share an array of solo, collaborative, and poems in English and Spanish:
— Nathan received an MSc in Creative Writing from The University of Edinburgh, and an MFA from The University of New Orleans. His fiction has appeared in a variety of literary journals and anthology. His plays have been performed in England, France, and Italy. His screenplay, “Wish Bringer,” won the Cine Story 4th Annual Script Sessions Screen Writing Award. He is currently producing the podcast Midnight Falafel at https://goo.gl/Qbzajt and the upcoming radio drama, FireStarter.  

— Mario received his bachelor’s degree in visual arts from the University of Guadalajara. He moved to San Miguel in 2006 and has had an active gallery at the Fabrica La Aurora for the last ten years. Besides being an acclaimed painter, sculptor, and mixed-media artist he is also a writer. Many of his pieces include text in the form of poetry and prose and he is writing a novel.

Robert Russell (“Rusty”) is a recovering economist who lives in Mexico. He coordinated the CheapAtAnyPrice poetry readings in Madison, WI for fifteen years. He has performed in poetry venues around North America, including Boston, Chicago, Providence, San Francisco, and Ann Arbor in the U.S., as well as Chihuahua, Mexico City, and San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. His short fiction and poetry have been published in various literary magazines, and his poetry has been included in two spoken word anthologies, Poetry Slam: The Competitive Art of Performance Poetry, and From the Page to the Stage and Back Again.

Founded in January of 2016, Poetry Café Bellas Artes meets monthly, September through April. This all-volunteer community organization features local and visiting poets (established and emerging) sharing original work in a casual setting.
