Plan for a very special evening Saturday, November 10, when young, energetic, Minneapolis-based jazz/R&B singer Katia Cardenas graces the stage at Teatro Ángela Peralta. (Special promotion below)
She'll be accompanied by Jazzoneando, the Bajío's most authentic Latin jazz band, and invited guests (including a cameo by Katia's father, Gold and Platinum recording artist, Mark Cardenas, who played with Morris Day & The Time and appeared in Prince's film "Purple Rain").
When these fabulous musicans got together in 2016 magic was made in Minneapolis and we knew we had to share the experience with fans and friends in Mexico. Read about how Jazzoneando discovered Katia on their U.S. tour in this Lokkal magazine story.
As a soloist and with her touring big-band, the Casablanca Orchestra, Katia Cardenas is a sought-after performer at festivals and jazz clubs coast to coast. (She's also busy at her California studio making music videos - see one below). It is a minor miracle getting her to San Miguel for a week-long whirlwind tour, including one exciting night on our city's grandest stage. Please don't miss it!
It's always wonderful to hear Jazzoneando perform, too. They'll feature original arrangements of American and Latin jazz, as well as pop and R&B tunes by Cuban pianist and Jazzoneando founder Yamil Vázquez and by Katia Cardenas.
Members and invited guests of Jazzoneando include Yamil Vázquez (piano/arrangements), Aarón Romo (bass/vocals), David Labrada (percussion), Dairon Vázquez (conga, piano), Kimani Carrazana (Latin percussion), Marco Carrusco (trumpet) and Jorge "El Gallo" (saxophone).
PS: If you can't make it on Saturday the 10th—or if you want to hear Katia more than once, as some of you have requested — she's playing a rockin' R&B set on Sunday, Nov. 11, 3pm-5pm at El Coyote Flaco (reservations 415 139 7653) with San Miguel's most fun R&B ensemble, The Elements (Patricio "Pato" Peña on keys, Rick Shlosser on drums, Aarón Romo on bass, and Federico Azúz on guitar).
Katia also will perform with Jazzoneando Sunday, November 4, 1pm, at Casa Museo Gene Byron in Guanajuato, followed by a wine reception on the grounds of the famed ex-hacienda, and on Friday, November 9, 9pm, at Mi Delirio Café, the Friday-night spot for jazz aficionados in Querétaro.
No matter which concert you attend, you'll be able to buy a copy of Katia's CD while they last!
