Follow Me Tours, Lucas Balderas 34

The festivities for the Dead have changed over the years. One big change is the time of the year when is celebrated. In the Nahua indigenous ritual there were two festivals dedicated to the cult of the dead: Miccailhuitontli or Feast of the Little Deaths, celebrated in the ninth month of the Nahua calendar (August 5-24 in Christian year); and the Great Festival of the Dead, held on the tenth month of the Nahua calendar (August 25 - September 13 in Christian year). That moment coincided with the offerings and sacrifices that they made to encourage good agriculture. Eventually they stopped performing these rituals in August and September changing the celebration to November and adding catholic elements to the festivities since New Spain had to adapt to the Catholic calendar consequence of the spiritual and militar conquest. Now, Day of the Dead is celebrated on November 1st, dedicated to Todos Santos and November 2nd to the Faithful Departed.
