La Reseña de La Alborada

San Miguel will be celebrating its Patron Saint: San Miguel Archangel with a special festival called: La Alborada (Dawn), on September 30. La Alborada started more than 100 years ago and was a tradition brought to San Miguel by workers from the town of Salvaterria in the state of Guanajuato. On the 30th at 3:00 a.m. (and you will hear a lot of very very loud cohetes!!) there will be 3 delegations coming from La Aurora, the railroad station, and the Valley del Mais. Each group will include a band, mojigangas, and will be carrying large stars made of colorful paper. This tradition has been preserved and continues each year. The 3 groups each representing its neighborhood, will meet at the corner of Canal and the Jardin to celebrate San Miguel with great fanfare and merriment.

Because La Alborada takes place at night, 22 years ago, the local group of Culture and Traditions initiated: La Reseña de La Alborada, so that families could enjoy this tradition with daytime events.

This event takes place 8 days before La Alborada and could be called: “Preparation a la Alborada” It starts at 5:00 p.m. with the traditional parades coming from the 3 different directions and meeting in the Jardin. Over the years this has grown into a very popular and festive event as many area families bring their children to enjoy this tradition.

The Festival will end with a show of traditional dances by the Ballet Folklorico Representativo de San Miguel which will perform in the Jardin at 7:30 p.m.

Come and join the fun!
