On Saturday, November 19th, we'll be exploring a brand-new birdwalk site, Sendero Las Brisas. The path winds through mature cacti, mesquites and other native plants, providing a healthy habitat that attracts a wide variety of native and migratory birds.
We'll be on the lookout for such raptors as our local Crested Caracara and winter-resident Cooper's Hawk and American Kestrel as well as local hummingbirds and bushtits, Ladderback and Golden-fronted woodpeckers and a variety of orioles. We may also spot such winter songbird migrants as Ruby-Crowned Kinglets, Blue-gray Gnatcatchers and Lark and Clay-colored Sparrows. From the cliff overlooking the Presa Allende, we may be able to spot American White Pelicans, egrets and herons.
This trip will be led by Luke Rich, Norman Besman, Bob Graham and Les Shulman (who has been birding this area for several years) - all seasoned birders with a wealth of knowledge to share.
