The Dirty Joke Show, Geechy Guy - theater

From the Tonight Show to San Miguel

By David Johanssen

Las Vegas comedian “Geechy Guy” says, “You play San Miguel twice in your career, once on your way up and once on your way down… It’s good to be back!” But Geech is clearly still at the top of his game. After opening for the legendary “Righteous Brothers” years ago, he settled in Vegas and never looked back, still a frequent guest on the “Tonight Show” and often playing to full houses in ‘Sin City’ and cruise ships around the world.

If you’re looking to laugh, Geech performs his hilarious “Dirty Joke Show,” exclusively at Shelter Theater this week. Only your up-tight Aunt Tilly would dare to miss his award-winning show while we have this rare opportunity to see a star at work!

But don’t worry; it’s not all dirty so the fun is for everyone. In the first half of Geech’s show, audiences will hear his family-rated jokes but after the break, get ready for raunch as Geech trots out ‘The Dirty Joke Show’. You’ll laugh til you’re blue in the, well, you get it. Tickets available at Biblioteca and online at www.sheltervg4.com.

Interview with “Geechy Guy”

By David Johanssen

The funnyman started cracking up friends in his hometown of Rochester, MI when he got into stand-up comedy at age 19. In the late 80s, Geech was invited to San Francisco where he finished in the top 10 out of 500 comics at the “Comedy Competition” two years in a row. He then headed south to LA where he got on TV’s “Star Search” and went on to set the record for the most appearances by a comedian. Geech is even in the Guinness Book of World Records for telling 676 jokes in one hour!

After opening for the legendary “Righteous Brothers”, he settled in Las Vegas in 1996 and started to perform there. Three years, over 25 casinos and dozens of cruise ships later, Geech created his eponymous, “The Geechy Guy Happy Hour” and is today one of the Strip’s regulars.

To welcome 2018, Shelter is proud to present Geech’s highly acclaimed Las Vegas show with two parts. In the first half, audiences will hear his family-rated jokes but after the break, get ready for raunch as Geech trots out ‘The Dirty Joke Show’. “This Hilarious stand-up routine puts the typical version on its ear! Yes, it's Raunchy. Yes, it's R-rated. This is why we love it!” - 24/7 Magazine. Tickets available at Biblioteca and online at www.sheltervg4.com.

We recently sat down with Geech to find out more about the funnyman:

Shelter: Why do they call you “Geechy Guy”?
Geech: It's Japanese for “Crazy”. It was given to me by an exchange student in college and it stuck.

Shelter: Why did you decide to bring your show to San Miguel?
Geech: Because it’s the best little city in the world!

Shelter: Did you get any good advice when you were starting out in comedy?
Geech: Well, there were some comics that I looked up to. George Carlin said, “Write everything down and save it.” Steve Martin’s advice was, “Be so funny that they can’t ignore you!”

Shelter: What advice would you give to a young comic just starting out?
Geech: Stage time! There's no shortcut to what 1000 times onstage will do to your act!
