Day of Peace - Rotary

The United Nations International Day of Peace is celebrated around the world in 180 countries and this year it's observed on September 21st. In San Miguel de Allende, the day also marks the first year anniversary of Rotary's placement of a Peace Pole and time capsule at Parque Juarez. As we prepare to observe this day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, please join us September 18th for a special presentation by a woman who embraces these values - Rotary Peace Fellow Wendy Coulson.

Wendy Coulson was this district's first Rotary Peace Fellow graduate in 2015. She completed the 3-month intensive course in Peace and Conflict Resolution at the Rotary Peace Center in Bangkok, Thailand. Since receiving her certificate, Wendy has developed her own consulting company called Peace & Development Education Consulting working on education programs for development projects in Rotary's 6 areas of focus.

With Rotary Midday, Wendy helped develop the water education program for the cistern building project and conducted outreach and monitoring and evaluation for the deaf school. She also worked with a club in Puebla creating and delivering workshops based on the Global Peace Index's pillars of peace for Mexican youth leaders during a 2-day conference in Puebla in the summer of 2017. Wendy has also created education programs for other San Miguel de Allende NGO's including Patronato Proniños, The Children's World Peace Organization, Audubon de México, and INVA.

Wendy Coulson holds Master's degrees in Applied Linguistics and Education and has worked in the field of education for 25 years in the US, Hungary, Jordan, and Colombia. A resident of Mexico for 14 years, Wendy Coulson will speak to the Rotary Midday Club on Tuesday, September 18 about how the Rotary Peace Fellowship has impacted her work and worldview so as to encourage the district to recruit and sponsor more fellows. Please join us at 12:30 pm on September 18th as the Rotary Midday Club presents a most compelling program. Parking is free and the hotel is easily accessible by bus.

Rotary is where neighbors, friends and problem-solvers share ideas, join leaders and take action to create lasting change. For more information, contact President Ivar Schacke at Ivar1819@gmail.com
