Shibori Tie Dye Workshop

Shibori is a Japanese word for various resist dyeing techniques that include stitching, wrapping, folding and clamping, and result in kaleidoscopic patterns with astounding variety. Since the 8th century-long before the 1960s-The Japanese have been using various forms of tie dye, much of it with indigo dye.

This workshop will focus on Arashi shibori (pole wrapping), folding and clamping with a colorful palette. It is a great class for quilters or clothing designers who want to add colorful design details!

There is no experience needed and Spanish speakers welcome! The results are easy and magical to achieve with an added element of surprise and fun in unfolding the complex designs.

All materials will be provided except please bring a box of zip-lock baggies or something suitable to individually wrap and take your samples home in. Please wear clothes that can be stained and/or bring an apron. Gloves will be provided.

We will be working mainly in cotton sheeting fabric specially prepared for dyeing. Feel free to also bring your own cotton fabrics. If so, please pre-wash with a degreasing detergent to remove all sizing.
